معرفی
Rachel Fisher is a Professor of Cardiovascular Diseases at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Medicine, Solna, since 2009. She leads the 'Lipid handling in health and cardiometabolic disease' research group within the Carolina Hagberg team. Her work focuses on molecular mechanisms linking lipid metabolism disturbances to cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes, with a particular emphasis on adipose tissue dysfunction and inflammatory processes.
Education includes a Docent degree from Karolinska Institutet (2003). Her research spans lipid biochemistry, adipocyte biology, and translational studies on chronic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Collaborative projects often involve clinical cohorts and molecular techniques.
Recent publications highlight her work on ANGPTL3/8 in atherogenesis, gene expression in breast reconstruction, and in vitro adipocyte models. Her research integrates epidemiological insights with cellular mechanisms, emphasizing the role of ceramides, sphingolipids, and microRNAs in disease pathways.
Her lab's work also explores physical activity interventions (e.g., telomere length in older adults) and the functional implications of chronic kidney disease on adipose tissue. She contributes to the European Lipoprotein Club and has co-authored reviews on adipose tissue vasculature and fatty acid transport proteins.
