Pinar Keskin is an Associate Professor of Economics at Wellesley College, with research expertise in applied microeconomics. Her work bridges development economics, health economics, and environmental economics, focusing on critical social issues such as domestic violence, mental health determinants, and resource management in low-income settings.
- B.A. in Economics from Bilkent University (Turkey)
- M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University
Her research explores (i) the economic and social drivers of domestic violence and its intergenerational transmission; (ii) socioeconomic determinants of mental health outcomes; and (iii) economic strategies to address water scarcity and pollution globally. She has published extensively in top journals like American Economic Journal: Applied Economics and Review of Economics and Statistics, with recent work analyzing pandemic-related mental health impacts and refugee integration policies.
At Wellesley, she teaches foundational courses in microeconomics (Econ 101), probability and statistics (Econ 103), and environmental economics (Econ 228/ES 228 and Econ 328/ES 329). Her teaching emphasizes hands-on statistical analysis and policy applications, particularly in developing countries.
Keskin is an Associate Editor at Economic Development and Cultural Change and a Research Fellow at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics. Her work has received funding from the International Growth Centre (IGC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), NBER/Gates Foundation, and J-PAL Humanitarian Protection Initiative (HPI).
