Dr. Samantha Rawlings is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Reading, where she serves as Diversity and Inclusion Lead. She holds a PhD from the University of Bristol (2011) and is affiliated with the Global Development Research Division and Development Economics Cluster. Her research focuses on applied microeconomics, particularly gender norms, domestic violence, child health, and environmental shocks. She is a CESifo Research Network Fellow and supervises PhD students on topics like gender-biased attitudes and climate change impacts.
Key research interests include the socioeconomic determinants of domestic violence, environmental health risks (e.g., e-waste), and child mortality in developing countries. Her work often intersects with development economics and public health policy. Ongoing projects include a Nuffield Foundation-funded study on maternal well-being and infant feeding practices (2022–2025).
Notable publications include studies on e-waste's child mortality impact (2024), job opportunities and intimate partner violence (2021), and domestic violence's role in child mortality (2020).
