Giulia La Mattina is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of South Florida's Department of Economics, with additional affiliations as a Research Fellow at IZA and a Network Member of the HCEO. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University (2013) and B.Sc./M.Sc. degrees in Economics from Bocconi University.
Her research focuses on Development Economics, Labor Economics, Health Economics, and the Economics of the Family, with specific interests in family violence (domestic abuse, child maltreatment), gender inequalities in education/health, child marriage, maternal/child health, and economic demography. Notable projects include analyzing the impact of educational policies on child health, nuisance ordinances on domestic violence, and intergenerational health transmission.
Her work often bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis, addressing critical societal issues in developing economies. She has contributed to journals like Social Science and Medicine and the Journal of Human Capital, and her research is widely cited in policy discussions on gender equity and public health.
