Shelly Lundberg

Shelly Lundberg is the Leonard Broom Professor of Demography at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Bergen, Norway. She is a Fellow and past President of the Society of Labor Economists, a Research Fellow at IZA, and an American Economic Association Distinguished Fellow. Her editorial roles include associate editor of the Journal of Population Economics and member of the editorial boards of the American Economic Review and the Review of Economics of the Household.

• Education: B.A. (First Class Honours) from the University of British Columbia; Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University (1981).

Lundberg's research focuses on labor economics, family economics, demography, and gender studies. Her work examines discrimination, inequality, family decision-making, intra-household resource allocation, and the economic modeling of demographic behavior. Current projects analyze the impact of personality on marriage, divorce, and intergenerational relations, as well as the economic returns to psychosocial traits.

Her recent publications highlight trends in gender norms, educational disparities, and family dynamics. Key themes include gender-based discrimination, labor market outcomes influenced by family structures, and policy implications for elderly care and child-rearing.
