Peter Park is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in History from UCLA (2005), an M.A. in History from UCLA (1999), and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Hampshire College (1995). His research focuses on early modern Europe, the European Enlightenment, German intellectual history, Orientalism, and comparative philosophy, with a particular emphasis on how non-European thought was excluded from Western philosophical canons.
His work includes analyzing figures like Leibniz, Wolff, Kant, and Friedrich Schlegel, as well as exploring the intersection of colonialism and intellectual history. Park has held visiting positions at UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, Bogazici University, and San Francisco State University. He has received prestigious fellowships, including from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and the Francke Foundations, supporting research in Germany on topics like the pantheism controversy and scientific racism in the German Enlightenment.
Professional recognitions include the 2012 Diversity Service Award from UTD and fellowships from UCLA and Hampshire College. His publications bridge historical analysis with critical theory, challenging Eurocentric narratives in philosophy and historiography.
