Daniel Wickberg

Professor Daniel Wickberg is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) since 2002, affiliated with the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. He specializes in American intellectual history, historiography, and the history of social thought. His research explores cultural sensibilities, the history of selfhood, and interdisciplinary approaches to history.

Wickberg holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from Yale University (1993), an M.S. in History from UCLA (1986), and a B.A. in History from Reed College (1982). His career includes roles at Yale University, Colgate University, and UTD, with notable awards like the Victor Worsfold Outstanding Teaching Award (2010-11) and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (2005-06).

His research interests span American intellectual history from 1607 to the present, focusing on cultural studies, historiography, and the intersections of emotions and selfhood. Key publications include The Senses of Humor (1998) and essays on cultural historiography. Recent work includes analyzing historical context’s role in intellectual history and modernist cultural ironies.

Wickberg has served extensively on academic committees at UTD, including curriculum development, library oversight, and faculty searches. He co-edited Modern Intellectual History and was President of the Society for U.S. Intellectual History (2013-2015).
