Carey Seal

Carey Seal is Associate Professor of Classics at UC Davis, specializing in Latin literature and Greco-Roman intellectual history. His work examines how Roman authors approach moral, political, and aesthetic value.

Education includes a Ph.D. in Classics from Princeton University and a B.A. in Classics from Yale University.

Research intersects ancient-modern thought with publications on ethics, political theory, and literary criticism. Current projects focus on dictatorship representations in Anglo-American fiction and the politics of irony.

Teaches Greek/Latin at all levels and translation-based courses on mythology, rhetoric, and historiography. Served as undergraduate program director and received UC Davis Distinguished Teaching Award.
