Peter Martin

Peter Martin is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at VCUarts Qatar, a branch campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been at the institution since its founding in 1999, contributing to the establishment of its graphic design program. His academic roles include teaching, research, and leadership in strategic planning initiatives, such as co-leading the 2014 VCU Qatar campus strategic planning process.

Research focuses on information visualization, generative processes in organizational design, axiological analysis, and contextual design methodologies. His work integrates global perspectives, informed by travel experiences in over 50 countries and photography.

Notable contributions include co-founding the Tasmeem Doha international design conference (2004) and co-hosting the radio program Design Edition (2010–2012). He has also curated exhibitions like Hazawi: Past, Present, and Future (2007) and participated in events such as the AIGA Educators Conference (2012).

• Grants: Secured two Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) grants (2007) for student-led projects on color semantics and cultural symbols in Qatar

Labs/Teams: Active in design education innovation and cross-disciplinary collaborations, including a 2015 learning lab with VCU Qatar and Weill Cornell Medical College Qatar.
