Liam Colquhoun

Liam Colquhoun is an Associate Professor of Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) within VCUarts. His work focuses on retail design, branded environments, and interdisciplinary pedagogy. He holds a BA in Interior Design from Napier University (Edinburgh, 1994) and an MDes in Communication Design from RMIT University (Melbourne, 2011).

His research explores the intersection of graphic communication, architecture, and retail design. Key areas include kiosk culture, interdisciplinary design education, and the role of virtual platforms in collaborative studios. He has presented at international conferences such as NTTECONF, SPACE Studies, and IDEC, addressing topics like retail studio collaborations and mobile retail structures.

Colquhoun has curated exhibitions like 'Retail Without Walls: Kiosk Culture' at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and 'A Library Reimagined' at VCUarts Qatar. He has secured grants including VCUarts Faculty Research Grants (2010–2012 and 2008) for projects on Gulf retail design and kiosk culture.
