Pengwei Ren is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on vascular biology, cardiovascular disease mechanisms, and genetic disorders, particularly investigating signaling pathways such as TGFβ and Hedgehog in aortic diseases. He holds a PhD in Cell Biology from Peking University (2019) and a BM from Peking University Health Science Center (2015).
Key research interests include molecular mechanisms underlying aortic dissection, Marfan syndrome, and progeria. Collaborations with faculty like George Tellides, Martin Schwartz, and Roland Assi highlight interdisciplinary work in translational medicine. Recent studies explore therapies targeting autophagy (e.g., trehalose), mTOR inhibition, and immunomodulation (e.g., PD-1 blockade) for vascular and cancer pathologies.
Publications emphasize vascular inflammation, smooth muscle cell biology, and preclinical drug testing in mouse models. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications, addressing critical questions in cardiovascular health and disease.
