معرفی
Pedro J. Perez is Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Huelva, Spain, a position he has held since April 2005. He began his academic career at the same university as Assistant Professor in 1993, progressed to Associate Professor in 1995, and has remained a leading figure in Spanish and international inorganic chemistry ever since.
Education
- Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry, University of Sevilla, 1987–1991 (Advisor: Prof. Ernesto Carmona)
- Post-doctoral Fulbright Scholar and Research Associate, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, 1991–1993 (Supervisor: Prof. Maurice Brookhart)
Research Interests
Perez leads the research group “Coordination and Organometallic Compounds toward Homogeneous Catalysis,” whose work centres on the design and mechanistic understanding of homogeneous catalysts for hydrocarbon functionalisation. His group has pioneered:
- C–H activation strategies for alkanes, including methane, to value-added products
- Carbene, nitrene and oxo transfer reactions mediated by transition-metal complexes
- Green catalytic processes employing supercritical carbon dioxide as an environmentally benign solvent
These themes combine fundamental organometallic chemistry with pressing challenges in energy and sustainability.
Scientific Awards and Distinctions
- Member, Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de España (2014)
- Gold Medal, Real Sociedad Española de Química (2016)
- Homogeneous Catalysis Award, Royal Society of Chemistry (2015)
- Fellow, Royal Society of Chemistry (2014)
- Inorganic Chemistry Award, Real Sociedad Española de Química (2007)
- Fulbright Scholar Fellowship (1991)
Research Output and Impact
Over nearly three decades, Prof. Perez has authored approximately 125 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals, delivered more than 100 invited lectures worldwide, and is internationally recognised as a leading authority in homogeneous catalysis and C–H functionalisation chemistry. His group’s discoveries continue to shape modern strategies for converting abundant hydrocarbons into useful chemicals under mild conditions.
