Paul Gerlach serves as an Artist Lecturer in Music Education at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music, where he has led the Kiltie Band for nearly four decades. He holds dual bachelor's degrees in Applied Music (Trumpet) and Music Education, along with two master's degrees in Applied Music (Trumpet) and Musicology (thesis: The Influence of Politics in Russian-Soviet Music) from Carnegie Mellon.
- Teaching: Courses in brass, woodwind, percussion, and marching band techniques
- Public School Experience: 32 years teaching instrumental and general music across K-12 levels
His conducting engagements include the PMEA Honors Band, Lock Haven University Symphonic Band, and River City Youth Brass Band. He served as music director of the Allegheny Brass Band and remains active in adjudication for festivals like Music in the Parks.
Affiliations include Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and Phi Beta Mu. Honors include the Carnegie Mellon Alumni Award and PMEA Hall of Fame induction.
