Patrick Viaene is a Lecturer in Heritage Conservation Studies at the University of Antwerp. Previously, he held roles at the School of Arts, University College Ghent (1995–2018) and served as a scientific assistant and exhibition curator at the Museum of Industry Ghent (1984). He is actively involved with TICCIH-Belgium and has been a Board member of TICCIH (2009–2018). His work focuses on preserving industrial heritage, including initiatives to save monuments like the coal processing plant in Beringen, Belgium. Viaene has also contributed to international organizations, such as serving as Secretary-General for the 7th ICCIH in Brussels (1990) and leading the Support Group Industrial & Scientific Heritage (SIWE) as its president (2004–2013).
