Dr. Patrick Lajoie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Western University. His research focuses on mechanisms regulating secretory protein homeostasis, particularly the unfolded protein response (UPR) and ER stress pathways. He employs yeast genetics, mammalian cell culture, and live-cell imaging to study protein quality control in health and diseases such as neurodegeneration and cardiac dysfunction. His lab, Lajoie Laboratory, investigates stress responses in aging cells and antifungal resistance in Candida albicans.
Education:
- PDF, Albert Einstein College of Medicine
- Ph.D., University of British Columbia
- B.Sc., Université du Québec à Montréal
Research Interests:
- Role of protein misfolding stress in aging
- Regulation of antifungal responses in Candida
- Transcriptional control during cellular stress
Article Trends: Recent work emphasizes ER stress mechanisms in yeast models, drug resistance, and links between UPR and neurodegenerative diseases. Techniques include quantitative imaging and genetic screens to dissect stress signaling pathways.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Lajoie Laboratory at Western University, collaborating with institutions like Janelia Research Campus and INSERM U1109 on cellular stress and protein quality control.
