معرفی
David Askew is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. His research focuses on pathogenic mycology, particularly virulence mechanisms in the human mold pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus, with emphasis on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, unfolded protein response (UPR), and antifungal therapeutic targets.
- Education: Bachelor's and Doctoral degrees in Microbiology and Cell Biology from the University of British Columbia (1981, 1986). Postdoctoral training at the Frederick Cancer Research Facility (1988) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (1992).
Research and Publications: Dr. Askew's work explores how A. fumigatus adapts to host environments through ER stress pathways, ribosome biogenesis, protease activity, and signal transduction. His studies have identified molecular targets for novel therapeutics, including IRE1 inhibition and ERAD-UPR interactions.
Grants: He has secured multiple federal and private grants as Principal Investigator, primarily from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, supporting research on ER stress, virulence, and antifungal strategies.
Teaching: Dr. Askew teaches Medical Histology, Medical Microbiology, and courses in cancer biology, immunology, and molecular medicine at undergraduate graduate and medical school levels.
