Novak Mijović serves as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the Department of Jazz and Popular Music, Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. His career uniquely bridges high-level performance and academic instruction within Europe's jazz ecosystem.
His educational foundation includes:
- Elementary Music School in Bar, Montenegro (prof. Miki Jelenić)
- Stanković High School of Music, Belgrade (prof. Izudin Čavrković)
- Music Academy, Kosovska Mitrovica
Mijović specializes in jazz trumpet performance and ensemble leadership, with extensive experience in big band formats. His artistic work spans collaborations with icons like Benny Golson and Duško Gojković, European Broadcasting Union tours across Europe and Asia, and contributions to acclaimed albums "Balkan Jazz" (2011) and "Latin Haze" (2014). As an educator, he develops curricula for jazz trumpet technique and improvisation within Serbia's premier music institution.
Since joining the Faculty of Music in Belgrade as Stjepko Gut's assistant in 2012, he has mentored emerging musicians while maintaining an active performance schedule. His professional network includes the RTS Big Band and international jazz collectives, demonstrating the integration of practice and pedagogy central to his role.
