Milan Nikolić serves as Associate Professor of Jazz Double Bass and Secretary of the Department of Jazz and Popular Music at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, where he has taught bass since 2012.
Born in 1973 in Kruševac, Serbia, he began his musical career at age 17 playing rhythm and blues in local bands. He moved to Belgrade in 1993 performing with the band Hush, then pursued studies at the University of Arts in Graz, Austria from 1996 until 2003.
His research integrates jazz performance practice with academic instruction, focusing on double bass techniques, improvisational frameworks, and contemporary music education methodologies. This expertise stems from extensive professional collaborations with jazz luminaries including Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Billy Hart, and Harold Mabern.
Nikolić has mentored generations of Serbian jazz musicians through the Faculty of Music's program, emphasizing performance authenticity and technical mastery while bridging academic theory with real-world stage experience.
