Andjelko Stupar serves as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Drums within the Department of Jazz and Popular Music at the Faculty of Music, maintaining his professional base in Graz, Austria. His role encompasses both academic instruction in jazz percussion and active artistic contributions to the international jazz community.
Stupar earned his Master's degree in Jazz Drums from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (1996-2002) with top honors, representing the institution at the 2002 International Association of Schools of Jazz meeting in Helsinki. His formal training included mentorship under Manfred Josel, Alex Deutsch, Gunther Mainhart, and Karl Ratzer, supplemented by seminars with drumming luminaries including Ed Thigpen, Billy Hart, and Vinnie Colaiuta.
His research and performance expertise focuses on jazz drumming techniques, improvisational frameworks, and cross-cultural collaborations within popular music. Stupar's discography spans over two decades with notable contributions to Vesna Petković's A New One (2007), Milan Stanisavljević's Awakening (2010) and Sound Quest (2015), and recordings featuring Red Holloway and Dave Liebman. He actively disseminates knowledge through jazz workshops across Macedonia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Austria, emphasizing practical performance pedagogy.
As an educator, Stupar mentors students in jazz drumming within the department's curriculum, drawing from his extensive performance background with artists like Sheila Jordan and Mark Murphy. His professional engagements include leadership in ensembles such as the Jazoon Quintet and collaborations with European jazz collectives including Trptones and Kevstunik, bridging academic instruction with real-world artistic practice.
