Neophytos Loizides is a Professor of International Conflict Analysis at the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS). His research focuses on political institution-building in divided societies, forced migration, and peace processes. He leads the PEACERETURN project (ERC Advanced Grant) studying peaceful return mechanisms for displaced communities and the Inclusive Peace project funded by ORA7 collaboration across multiple countries. His work integrates qualitative research with experimental methods to identify consensus in post-conflict zones like Cyprus and Northern Ireland.
Prior to PAIS, he held positions at the University of Kent (as director of CARC), Queen’s University Belfast, and Princeton University. He has also been a fellow at the University of Essex, University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University. Current roles include honorary professor at Kent and senior advisor to the Forum of Federations.
Key awards include the ERC Advanced Grant PEACERETURN. His research emphasizes citizen-driven conflict resolution, transitional justice, and the role of mediation in overcoming stalemates. He has advised governments and organizations like the Council of Europe and contributed to major media outlets.
His training programs, delivered with international partners, have trained over 120 diplomats from 25 countries in mediation and negotiation. He advocates for multi-disciplinary approaches to real-world conflict resolution and institutional design.
