Patrick G. Coy is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Applied Conflict Management at Kent State University, USA. In this capacity he oversees one of the largest undergraduate Peace and Conflict Studies degree programs in the country, serving more than 1,000 students annually, and teaches courses on mediation, negotiation, nonviolence, and human rights at both undergraduate and doctoral levels.
Research & Scholarship: His work centers on the dynamics of peace movements, nonviolent conflict resolution, and collective identity formation. Professor Coy has co-authored the book Contesting Patriotism: Culture, Power and Strategy in the Peace Movement and edited or co-edited eleven volumes, including Social Conflicts and Collective Identities, A Revolution of the Heart: Essays on the Catholic Worker Movement, and nine volumes of Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change. His extensive publication record comprises over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.

- Distinguished Teaching Award – College of Arts and Sciences, Kent State University
- Outstanding Published Article Award (2008) – American Sociological Association, Section on Peace, War and Social Conflict
Grants & External Funding: Research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the Albert Einstein Institution, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the American Sociological Association, and Kent State University’s University Research Council.

Professor Coy has also worked internationally as an observer and nonviolent protective accompanier with Peace Brigades International in Sri Lanka during ethnic conflict, and he remains active in the alternative dispute resolution movement both as a practitioner and scholar.
