He completed his PhD in International Conflict Analysis at the University of Kent in 2017, with his viva examination held in September of that year.
His research focuses on Africa, employing Large-N quantitative methodology to explore the causes and dynamics of contentious action. Key research areas include the relationship between ethnic-based political inequalities and communal conflict onset, nonviolent resistance emergence, and civil war dynamics. He specifically investigates how rioting impacts nonviolent resistance movements.
His publication record includes analysis of fictional conflicts through academic frameworks, as demonstrated in his 2017 article examining Game of Thrones through conflict studies lenses, which analyzed peace prospects in Westeros using established conflict resolution theories.
Luke is an active member of the Conflict Research Society and serves as an accredited community mediator in London. His teaching experience includes delivering Negotiation and Mediation courses at the MA level as an associate lecturer at the University of Kent.
