معرفی
Naveed Akbar is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Science at the Radcliffe Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, and a Research Fellow at Somerville College. He leads the Akbar Group, which investigates extracellular vesicles' roles in cardiovascular, inflammatory, and metabolic diseases. His research focuses on understanding how these vesicles mediate immune responses post-myocardial infarction and their diagnostic/therapeutic potential.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) in Human Biology
- MSc in Biomedical Sciences (Research)
- PhD in Medicine and Therapeutics from the University of Dundee
Research Interests: Dr. Akbar explores extracellular vesicles' immunomodulatory functions, bioengineering approaches to produce therapeutic vesicles, and their diagnostic applications. Key areas include:
- Endothelial cell communication via EVs
- EVs in post-heart attack immune activation
- Therapeutic targeting of inflammation
- Precision medicine in cardiovascular diseases
Scientific Awards:
- British Heart Foundation Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellowship
Advising & Grants: Dr. Akbar supervises DPhil students and collaborates internationally. His group receives funding from the British Heart Foundation and other grants. Training opportunities include advanced techniques in EV isolation, CRISPR engineering, and multi-omics analysis.
Labs & Teams: The Akbar Group at the Radcliffe Department of Medicine collaborates with global experts, focusing on translational research to bridge basic science and clinical applications.
