Muzeeb Shaik is an Assistant Professor at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University Bloomington, specializing in quantitative marketing strategy research with a focus on financial and societal impacts of marketing actions. His expertise spans business-to-business (B2B) sales, healthcare, education, causal modeling, applied machine learning, and optimization.
- PhD in Business Administration (Marketing), Texas A&M University (2022)
- MS in Industrial Engineering, Texas Tech University (2016)
- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, J.N.T.U College of Engineering (2009)
His research examines how marketing decisions influence consumer behavior and economic outcomes, particularly in the context of public safety crises. Recent work analyzes the economic toll of school shootings, revealing significant declines in local consumer spending on groceries, restaurants, and public activities. Collaborative studies with colleagues from Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, UC Davis, and Texas A&M explore behavioral experiments linking anxiety to spending patterns.
Key findings include:
- 2.1% average grocery spending reduction in U.S. counties after school shootings (2012-2019)
- 8% restaurant/bar spending decline and 3% food store reduction observed in 2019-2022 analyses
- Lost revenue averaging $5.4M per county
The research highlights the need for coordinated community recovery strategies, including trauma-informed retail approaches, mental health investments, and public communication campaigns.
