Dr. Milenko Petrovic serves as Senior Lecturer Above the Bar at the University of Canterbury's Department of Global, Cultural and Language Studies within the Faculty of Arts. He holds the prestigious Jean Monnet Chair position and serves as Deputy Director of the National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE), where he has been employed since January 2006. Additionally, he is President of the Australasian Association for Euro-Asian Studies (AAEAS), demonstrating his leadership in the field of European studies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Petrovic's research focuses on post-communist democratisation and socio-economic transitions in East Central and South-Eastern Europe, with particular emphasis on EU enlargement processes. His scholarly work examines the geopolitical dimensions of EU expansion, the Europeanization of post-communist states, and the implications of European integration for regions beyond Europe, including New Zealand. His research demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary challenges facing the Western Balkans in their path toward EU membership.
