Arolda Elbasani is a Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (European University Institute) since 2012. Her work focuses on Europeanization, EU enlargement processes, comparative democratization, and public administration reforms in post-communist contexts. She previously held academic roles including Jean Monnet Fellow (EUI), Post-doctoral Fellow (Research College Berlin), and Lecturer positions at institutions like the European University of Tirana.
Her research explores how external actors like the EU influence institutional change in candidate countries, particularly in the Western Balkans. Key themes include EU conditionality mechanisms, domestic resistance dynamics, and the interplay between transnational norms and local governance structures. She has published extensively on EU-Albania relations and democratization processes in post-communist states.
