Mike Wynes is an Assistant Professor and Chartered Professional Accountants of Saskatchewan Scholar at the Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan, where he conducts experimental research on judgment and decision-making in accounting contexts with emphasis on investor behavior, emotions, and organizational apologies.
His academic credentials include a Ph.D. from Queen's University, M.Sc. from the University of Saskatchewan, and B.Sc. from Brigham Young University Hawaii.
Dr. Wynes' research portfolio examines decision processes across diverse stakeholders including investors, managers, and regulators. His work investigates how emotions influence financial judgments, the efficacy of organizational apologies during crises, and the practical implications of accounting standards like CECL. Recent publications in Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Ethics, and Behavioral Research in Accounting demonstrate methodological rigor through controlled experiments.
He received the Dean's Emerging Scholar Award in 2024 and serves as Associate Editor for Accounting Perspectives. Dr. Wynes provides expert financial accounting testimony in legal proceedings and has examined three MSc. theses.
His teaching encompasses undergraduate courses COMM 201 (Introduction to Financial Accounting) and COMM 321 (Corporate Financial Reporting I), plus graduate course MPAC 837 (Advanced Finance), integrating his research on behavioral aspects of financial decision-making.
