Dr. Michelle Aung Thin is a Senior Lecturer at RMIT University's School of Media and Communication, specializing in Creative Writing, Communication, and Advertising. Her academic role is complemented by her status as an internationally acclaimed novelist and copywriter. She is particularly renowned for her novels The Monsoon Bride and Hasina/Crossing the Farak River, which explore mixed-race identities and cross-cultural narratives in colonial and contemporary Myanmar. Her research focuses on postcolonial studies, Asian cultural history, and hybrid identities, with a specialization in Myanmar's literary and cultural landscapes.
Dr. Aung Thin has received significant recognition, including the Freeman Prize and multiple fellowships such as the National Library of Australia Creative Fellowship. She actively engages with Southeast Asian creative communities through initiatives like the Asialink residency program and collaborations with Myanmar artists and writers. Her teaching spans undergraduate copywriting and master's-level creative advertising campaigns, while her supervision includes creative writing PhD projects in Australia and PRS Asia.
