Felix Girke is an anthropologist and post-doctoral researcher at the Center of Excellence 16 'Cultural Foundations of Social Integration' at University of Konstanz, Germany. His research primarily focuses on the politics of heritage in contemporary Myanmar, with particular attention to urban heritage conservation and the translation of heritage concepts across cultural contexts.
His research interests span Anthropology, Heritage Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Myanmar Studies, Cultural Politics, Urban Heritage, and Rhetoric. Girke's work critically examines how heritage is constructed, translated, and contested in post-colonial contexts, particularly in Southeast Asia. His research demonstrates how heritage claims serve as political tools that shape social integration and cultural identity.
His publications reveal a consistent focus on the rhetorical dimensions of cultural heritage, with particular attention to Myanmar's urban landscape and the impact of mass tourism on cultural identity. His work bridges theoretical approaches in anthropology with practical concerns in heritage conservation, examining how global heritage discourse interacts with local cultural practices.
Girke has presented his research at international conferences including the Association for Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS) 2016, where he contributed to discussions on heritage rhetoric and Myanmar's heritage politics.
