Michalis Kakos is a Reader at Leeds Beckett University, affiliated with the Carnegie School of Education. His research and teaching focus on Citizenship Education, Intercultural Education, Inclusive Education, and Special Educational Needs. He has held academic roles at the University of Leicester, University of Leeds (Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education), and University of Edinburgh (Centre for Research in Inclusion and Diversity).

His research spans teacher-student interactions and their impact on young people’s self-concept, institutionalization in education, and meta-ethnographic synthesis of educational frameworks. Recent projects include cross-national studies on special educational needs in England/Germany and sleep patterns in Hong Kong/England.
Michalis has extensive teaching experience in primary and secondary schools across Greece, USA, and UK, including Psychology and Classics instruction. He supervises research in areas such as children’s rights, deviant behavior in adolescence, and professionalism in formal education. His work emphasizes translating research into inclusive pedagogical practices.
