Dr Steve Burton is the Head of Subject for Digital Transformative Education at the Carnegie School of Education (Leeds Beckett University). He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Bolton through his work with the RISE thinktank. His expertise spans digital learning, safeguarding, educational leadership, and criminology.

His research focuses on leveraging Immersive Reality and Artificial Intelligence to enhance educational engagement and address challenges in the national curriculum. He leads the '#digital learning for positive change' research cluster and chairs the Leeds Learning Alliance Digital Strategy group. Recent work includes exploring ethical implications of digital tools in education and their impact on youth mental health.
As a co-editor of Safeguarding and Protecting Children in the Early Years and contributor to Teaching in Lifelong Learning, he has shaped teacher training practices. He maintains ties to criminology through his prior managerial role at West Yorkshire Police Force Intelligence unit.
