Michael Hödl is a Researcher at the Department of Economic and Social History, University of Vienna. He served as a Praedoc assistant from 2020 to 2024 and is currently a research assistant in the project 'Die verstaatlichte Industrie' (State-Owned Enterprises), funded by ÖBAG, under PIs Clemens Jobst and Peter Eigner.
His education includes a BSc in Technical Physics (TU Vienna), BA in Philosophy (University of Vienna), Mag. phil. in History and Physics Education, MA in Ethics, and a PhD in Historical and Cultural Studies (2025). His dissertation focused on Vienna's economic development using historical microdata.
Research interests: Economic history of Vienna (19th-20th centuries), industrialization patterns, urban economic structures, business history, and post-1945 state-owned enterprises in Austria. He contributes to interdisciplinary projects analyzing economic geography and agglomeration dynamics.
Current projects include investigating state-owned enterprises' role in Austria's post-war economy. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary economic frameworks.
