Matthew L. Miller is a Senior Lecturer on Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), serving since 2006. He co-chairs the Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology (LDIT) initiative. His roles include former Senior Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at HGSE and faculty chair of Harvard’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education (MLE).
Education: B.A. in English from Yale University (noted as outstanding student) and Ed.D. from Harvard University (Spencer Research Training Grant Fellow).
Research focuses on organizational change, higher education leadership, and learning design. Key contributions include co-authoring *An Everyone Culture* (2016), which introduced the concept of Deliberately Developmental Organizations (DDOs). Recent grants include work on personalized learning funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and equity-focused institutional capacity development supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Notable awards: Harvard Hero designation and accolades for his book’s impact on management and HR practices. His teaching includes graduate core courses integrating developmental psychology and learning sciences.
