Mark Thompson is a Professor of Modern History at the University of East Anglia's School of History and Art History. Previously, he held roles as a journalist in Croatia, policy analyst with the UN, and media consultant for organizations like the Open Society Foundations. His research focuses on modern Italian history (1945–1955), media policy, and the Balkans. He holds a Doctor of Social Science (2002) and BA in English Literature (1981) from the University of Cambridge. Thompson has authored award-winning works including The White War (PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize) and Birth Certificate: The Story of Danilo Kis (Jan Michalski Prize).
