Professor Susan Carruthers is a leading historian of 20th-century US and international history, currently serving as Professor of US/International History at the University of Warwick's Department of History (Faculty of Arts). Her research focuses on war, postwar societies, and the intersection of media with conflict. She has held fellowships at institutions including Princeton's Davis Center, Harvard's Charles Warren Center, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Her academic journey includes roles at Rutgers University-Newark (2002–2017) and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (1993–2002). She teaches modules on postwar history, gender in wartime America, and the US military's sociocultural dimensions. Notable works include Making Do (2025), analyzing postwar Britain through clothing and material culture, and The Good Occupation (2016), shortlisted for the PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize.
