Mark Roseland is a Professor at the School of Community Resources and Development, Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions, Arizona State University (ASU), and Senior Global Futures Scientist at the ASU Global Futures Laboratory. He previously held roles at Simon Fraser University (SFU), including Professor and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development. His expertise spans sustainable development policy, urban planning, climate action, and community economic development.
Education: Ph.D. in Community and Regional Planning from the University of British Columbia (Canada).
Research focuses on sustainable development policy, urban sustainability, climate action co-benefits, and community productivity. He leads the Community Capital Lab and founded Pando | Sustainable Communities, a global network connecting researchers and practitioners. Key awards include the SFU President’s Award for Leadership in Sustainability (2018) and recognition as a top public intellectual by The Vancouver Sun (2000).
His work includes advising governments and organizations on sustainability strategies, developing decision-support tools, and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has authored influential books like Toward Sustainable Communities and contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications.
