Professor Mark Brosnan is a Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath, and Director of the Centre for Applied Autism Research (CAAR). He holds a Chartered Psychologist status with the British Psychological Society and specializes in cognitive psychology and neuropsychology. His research focuses on developing digital technologies to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly through participatory design approaches involving autistic communities.
Key projects include the Developing and Delivering Digital Interventions (3DBI) project (Leverhulme Trust-funded), the ASC me I.T. app (EPSRC/IAA-funded), and collaborations like the SMART-ASD project (ERASMUS+). He leads the annual Bath Autism Summer School, a residential program supporting autistic students transitioning to university.
Professor Brosnan’s theoretical work explores cognitive processing dichotomies in ASD, including predictive coding and dual-process theories. He has secured grants from the Economic and Social Research Council, The John and Lorna Wing Foundation, and others. His interdisciplinary approach bridges psychology, technology, and education to improve outcomes for neurodivergent individuals.
Recent research interests include autistic adults’ experiences in criminal justice settings, employment accommodations, and the application of neuro-affirmative principles. He actively supervises MRes and PhD students and collaborates internationally on autism-related initiatives.
