Rossella Sorte is a Lecturer in Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in neurodiversity, autism, and inclusive education. She holds a PhD in Psychology (2018) and multiple qualifications from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Italy. Her research focuses on neurodivergent individuals' experiences in education, family dynamics in special educational needs (SEND), and trauma-informed practices. She co-leads Neurodiversity Seminars and the Disability Group in the Psychology Department, advocating for neuro-affirmative curricula. Recent projects include analyzing school inclusion barriers for neurodivergent children and exploring parental experiences of autistic children in UK mainstream schools. Dr. Sorte has been shortlisted twice for MMU’s Teaching Awards for mental health advocacy. Her work emphasizes systemic cultural shifts in education, staff training, and collaborative approaches to support neurodivergent students and families.

Research Interests:

Her qualitative work highlights barriers faced by self-diagnosed autistic women and gender-diverse individuals, advocating for identity-affirming frameworks.
