Marion Campbell is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at Deakin University's Faculty of Arts and Education. With a career spanning several decades, she has established herself as a significant figure in creative writing, literary theory, and feminist studies. Her academic journey includes positions at various Australian institutions including the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, and Victoria University.
Dr. Campbell's research interests encompass a wide range of literary and theoretical areas including:
- Intertextuality & subversion
- Poetics of the fragment
- French and German poetry (19th, 20th and contemporary)
- Feminist cultural and literary theory
- Parody and queer writing
- Avant-garde traditions
- Genre-and gender-bending poetics
Her scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on experimental forms, particularly prose poetry and fragmented narratives. Campbell's recent research explores the contemporary legacy of the radical tradition of the prose poem, with specific attention to "queery(y)ing Baudelaire." She is also involved with the Deakin-based Research Group: Parody Moves, reflecting her ongoing interest in parodic performance and subversion.
Dr. Campbell has received numerous awards and recognitions for her literary and academic work, including multiple shortlistings for major Australian literary awards, the WA Literary Week Award for Fiction (1989), and several university-level research excellence awards.
As a dedicated supervisor, she has guided numerous doctoral and masters students through their research journey, with completions spanning from 2015 to 2022. Her supervision topics reflect her broad interests, covering trauma fiction, eco-elegy, feminist literature, surrealist poetics, and post-industrial narratives.
Dr. Campbell maintains active professional engagement through editorial board memberships (Cultural Studies, TEXT, Writing from Below, Cordite) and has delivered keynotes at significant conferences including the Pathways of Desire Postgraduate conference at La Trobe University and the Encounters conference hosted by Deakin.
