Marin Jacobson is an Associate Professor of Music at Valparaiso University, holding the Phyllis and Richard Duesenberg Chair in Lutheran Music. She serves as Director of the Bach Institute and Director of Choral and Vocal Activities. Previously, she held leadership roles at Malone University and Concordia University Irvine, including Department Chair and Director of Music Education. Her expertise spans conducting, music education, and composition.
Dr. Jacobson earned a DMA in Choral Conducting and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, a MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota, and a BA in Vocal Music Education from St. Olaf College. She is actively involved with the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Her research focuses on choral music analysis, with recent publications in the ACDA Choral Journal. She has composed works like Two Benedictions, published by MorningStar Music. Her performances include guest conducting Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore and leading choirs in national and international tours.
Awarded the Duesenberg Chair, she emphasizes Lutheran music traditions and community engagement through choral festivals and educational initiatives. Her work bridges academic, church, and community music sectors.
