Dr. Margaret Heffernan OAM is a Senior Lecturer in Management at RMIT University's College of Business and Law. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and has over 30 years of academic and professional experience in public health, education, and Indigenous health equity. Her research focuses on socio-ecological determinants of health, cultural sensitivity in healthcare, and transformative pedagogy in higher education. She has led numerous grants, including a 2024 SOTL grant exploring gamification in education and a 2016 project developing HPV resources for multicultural communities.
Her awards include the Order of Australia Medal (2006) for contributions to women's health and the 2023 RMIT Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. She has held leadership roles such as PDW Chair-elect of the Academy of Management's MED Division and chairs global health initiatives like the International Indigenous HPV Alliance. Her work bridges research and practice, addressing inequities in healthcare access and education for marginalized communities.
