Catherine Brown OAM is an Enterprise Professor at the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne. She previously served as CEO of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation (LMCF), Australia’s largest community foundation, focusing on funding innovation in affordable housing, climate resilience, health, and social enterprise. Her work integrates legal, business, and philanthropic expertise to address environmental and social challenges.
Education: PhD from Swinburne University's Centre for Social Impact (2018), specializing in philanthropic innovation. Published Great Foundations (2010), a guide to nonprofit resilience. Research interests include climate philanthropy, impact investment, and policy advocacy for social and environmental issues.
Awards: Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to charitable organizations.
Advisory roles: Chair of Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, Board member of Impact Investing Australia. Former roles include Chair of Queen Victoria Women’s Centre Trust and Deputy Chair of Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Extensive board and governance experience across philanthropy, healthcare, and social sectors.
