Marcus Utterström is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Law, Lund University, with dual roles as a Researcher at the Business Law Center and a member of the LTH profile area for Circular Construction Industry. His work focuses on contract law, particularly construction law, with an emphasis on circularity in the construction sector and functional obligations in substantive commission agreements. He teaches Property Law, Contract Law, and Conflict and Contracts in the law program.
Research interests include legal frameworks for sustainable construction, contractual obligations in construction projects, and Nordic legal harmonization. Recent publications explore prenuptial agreements, municipal challenges in circular construction, and Nordic construction contract standards. Utterström has organized conferences, including the Nordic Conference on Construction Law, and delivered invited lectures on topics like climate impact thresholds in construction.
He has secured grants from institutions like the Institute for Legal Research and the Emil Heijne Foundation, and led projects such as 'Research to enable a circular building sector.' Notable awards include the 2024 Research Contribution from the Institute for Legal Research and the 2023 Printing Grant from the Emil Heijne Foundation.
Utterström is involved in collaborative projects like the Excellence Programme for Sustainable Development (2021–2027) and has advised on legal matters, including a 2022 doctoral thesis on construction law disruptions. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing environmental sustainability and legal innovation in construction practices.
