Lucy Hurst is a Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) in Creative Writing and the PGR Representative for the Humanities at York St John University. Her research focuses on the intersection of disability and environment in poetry, particularly experimental contemporary practices. She has contributed to the Ecological Justice Research Group and co-founded the university’s Living Lab, recognized with a UKRI Green Gown Award in 2022. Her creative work includes the poetry pamphlet Modern Medicine (2021), which explores themes of mental health and environment. Lucy has held roles as a Research Assistant and casual academic, teaching modules like Introduction to Creative Writing and delivering guest lectures on practice-based research in the arts. She also coordinates the Postgraduate Journal of Interdisciplinary Humanities and organizes social events for researchers.
As a Research Assistant for the Living Lab, Lucy coordinated interdisciplinary projects involving over 20 modules, collaborating with local councils and activists to disseminate ecological research. She has presented findings at PGR conferences and contributed to academic papers analyzing pedagogical approaches. Her work bridges creative practice with ecological justice, emphasizing participatory and community-focused methodologies.
Lucy’s professional activities include freelance tutoring for PhD students, focusing on academic writing and accessibility, and supervising student volunteers for the Living Lab Cookbook Project. She is currently pursuing Associate Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) to further her teaching portfolio.
