Lucy Bird holds dual roles as a Casual Academic Researcher and Casual Professional at the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. Her work focuses on understanding how political despair, social identity, and group dynamics influence collective action and well-being, particularly in contexts of climate justice and immigrant communities. She actively publishes in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology and Political Psychology.
Her research interests include the psychological underpinnings of political conspiracy theories, the longitudinal effects of climate-related despair on mental health, and the role of group identification in fostering prosocial behaviors. Recent studies explore the intersection of racial equality, climate justice, and intergroup emotions.
