Lucy Sors is a Senior Lecturer at York St John University, affiliated with the School of Education, Language and Psychology. She transitioned from roles as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and school leader to academia in 2021. Her teaching focuses on Inclusion, Special Educational Needs (SEND), Languages, and Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC), across Initial Teacher Education (ITE), postgraduate, and professional development programmes. She leads modules such as LOTC, Inclusive and Holistic Practices, and oversees the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCO) and Masters in Special Education Needs and Inclusion (MASENI).
Her research emphasizes inclusive pedagogies, ecological justice through the University’s ‘Living Lab’ project, and creative language education via the York St John Community Language School. She employs participatory and anthropological research methods to center marginalized voices in education. Professional affiliations include the British Educational Research Association (BERA), National Association for Special Educational Needs (NASEN), and the Association for Language Learning (ALL).
Lucy collaborates in interdisciplinary initiatives like the Institute for Social Justice’s Living Lab, integrating ecological justice into teaching. She also trains educators in creative language approaches for children and adolescents through the Community Language School. Her work bridges theory and practice, advocating for equitable, holistic, and place-responsive education.
