Lucy Barker

Lucy Barker is an Assistant Professor in Education at Northumbria University's Department of Social Work, Education & Community Wellbeing. She holds a PhD in Education (2023) and an MA (2013), both from Northumbria University. Her research focuses on inclusive pedagogy, using A/R/Tographic methodologies combining art, research, and teaching. Key areas include visual research techniques like collage, curriculum design emphasizing verbal and visual literacies, and advocating for neurodivergent learners.

Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), aiming to eliminate discrimination in learning environments. She leads the Inclusion and Social Justice research group at her department and convenes the Arts-Based Educational Research Special Interest Group at BERA. Her 2024 OFSTED report highlighted Northumbria's strong teacher training in inclusive practices for SEND and multilingual pupils.
