Louise Sylvester is a Professor in English Language at the University of Westminster, specializing in medieval vocabulary, semantics, and multilingual textual culture. Her work bridges historical linguistics, lexicology, and stylistics of Middle English texts.
Her research includes funded projects such as:
- Leverhulme Trust-funded Technical Language and Semantic Shift in Middle English (2017)
- Leverhulme Trust-funded A Bilingual Thesaurus (2016)
- AHRC-funded Lexis of Cloth and Clothing projects (2009, 2012)
- Co-investigator on the Medieval English in a Multilingual Context network.
She has authored and co-edited several books and journal articles, including Medieval Romance and the Construction of Heterosexuality (2008) and The Bilingual Thesaurus of Everyday Life in Medieval England (2019). Her awards include AHRB/HEFCE Research Fellowships and grants from AHRC and Leverhulme Trust.
She supervises doctoral students and is a trustee of the Chaucer Heritage Trust, actively encouraging research in her fields.
