Professor Marion Turner holds the J.R.R. Tolkien Chair in English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Lady Margaret Hall. Her research focuses on Chaucer, medieval literature, biography, gender studies, and the intersections of medieval and modern thought. Key works include Chaucer: A European Life (2019) and The Wife of Bath: A Biography (2023), both critically acclaimed and award-winning. She has curated the 2023–24 Bodleian exhibition Chaucer Here and Now, exploring Chaucer's enduring legacy.
Her academic contributions include editorial roles, such as editing A Handbook of Middle English Studies (2013), and leadership in the New Chaucer Society. Turner has received prestigious fellowships from the Leverhulme Trust and British Academy, alongside Wellcome Trust funding. Her work bridges scholarly rigor and public engagement, including radio/TV appearances and lectures at literary festivals.
Teaching interests span Chaucerian conflict analysis, medieval writing practices, and gender studies. Her research highlights interdisciplinary approaches, combining literary criticism with historical, medical, and cultural frameworks. Awards include the British Academy Rose Mary Crawshay Prize and the History Reclaimed Book of the Year.
