Candace Barrington is a Professor of English at Central Connecticut State University, known for her interdisciplinary research bridging legal-historical analysis and literary studies. She co-directs the Global Chaucers project with Jonathan Hsy, an international initiative examining non-Anglophone appropriations and translations of Chaucer’s works across all continents.
Her scholarship includes the monograph American Chaucers (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2007), which explores Chaucer’s reception in popular culture, alongside co-edited volumes and articles. She contributes to open-access academic resources as a founding editor of The Open Access Companion to The Canterbury Tales, designed for readers new to British literature and literary theory.
The Global Chaucers project employs a comparative translation methodology to redefine theoretical paradigms in translation studies, moving beyond the 'cultural turn' to investigate hermeneutical implications of multilingual interpretations of The Canterbury Tales. Her work emphasizes cross-cultural engagement with medieval texts and digital humanities innovation.
- Penn Humanities Forum Regional Fellowship (2016–2017)
Her research focuses on medieval legal discourse, Chaucer’s global translations, and open-access pedagogical frameworks, reflecting commitments to both traditional scholarship and collaborative, accessible academic practices.
